Summary

Soldering workplace

I was inspired by my neighbour's solution for holding PCBs while soldering but I saw some flaws and wanted to make it a bit better and smoother.

PCB Holders

I wanted more options to hold PCBs while soldering so I made grooves for flat, straight UP 90° and two 45° grooves for better access to bottom side.

Bowls for SMD parts

While not really necessary sometimes it may be useful to have fixed place for small components.

Spool holder

I have put a lot of thoughts to these, I wanted something sturdy and scalable and yet simple. Good feature thanks to those two cones is that you can fit almost any spool and have it perfectly centred between holders. Also if you print more cones you can easily extend this holder to hold multiple solder spools or wire spools too. So it is scalable. Then just get M8 gate screw which has screw-thread only at the end of it. Some washers and M8 nuts and you are all set. There is no need for bearings as 3D printed plastic is usually very smooth so it runs well.

Magnets

I have selected 2 types of magnets for all the parts. They are of these dimensions.

Ø10x4mm rounded neodymium magnet with magnetic force of 2.1kg each
6-12 pieces for spool holders (depends on how strong you want it to be)
2 pieces for each PCB holder

Ø20x1mm for each SMD bowl, I got ones with 3M tape

Steel base plate

My neighbour has komaxit coated (powder coated) steel sheet ca. 2mm thick. At first I wanted to go this route as well but I found it very hard to get smaller piece of steel sheet and I didn't want to buy the whole 2000x1500mm sheet for just smaller size one. Then I found company who for relatively cheap offer laser cut sheets of multiple metal types and sizes. So I decided to go with stainless steel 250x250x2mm and also with rounded corners to make it nicer and if I exclude shipping this was just $7 which is great.

I have designed these in Tinkercad so. If you wish to fork this design, go to these links.

Possible improvements

PCB holder spacers - just a piece of 3D printed something that will allow for fixed higher position of those holders. Or maybe something that with combination with screws will make it adjustable. If I come up with something I will definitely add it to this design.
LED lamp - I'm thinking about articulating LED lamp similar to what Darbin Orvar made but with 3D printed magnetic base to also house all electronics in.
Fume extractor - Simple 3D printed FAN holder with carbon filter and magnetic base.

When I have update to this Thing I will definitely add it here.

I hope you will like this design as I do. If you decide to print this out, please share your makes, it will make me really happy ;).
