04/10/2024: I'm currently working on redesigning the gears to have better geometry.
This is a 3D printable, functioning, mechanical model of the solar system. All 8 planets (yes, I know, Pluto arguments) are represented. The orbits and planets are not to scale, but the orbital periods are within 3% of actual relative to each other.
Once assembled, moving any orbital ring will move all others at the corresponding rate.
There are a total of 102 parts to build this, with several components needing glued together. You'll also need to drill a small, blind hole in each of the outer 6 rings for the planets, or glue them to the surfaces.
