Summary

I had text for this, but then Thingiverse crashed every time I tried to upload anything!

I was making a LOT of pokeballs to hand out at SDCC, and while the end results were amazing, the time and cost in springs was... Less so. So, now that I'm not in crunch mode, I thought I'd play around with a variation that has snap together parts to get rid of the button wire and gobs and gobs of hot glue.

Once I have the snap together parts tuned in, I'll look at doing plastic wings to replace the need for the hinge spring. After that I'll see about an easier print method for the internal details from the original design (that also snap in, of course).

Right now the file is Waaaay too big, as in, ~4% scale is an actual system scale. This also means I don't know if my meshes are acceptable detail level. Once I've got all my snap bits tuned in I'll fix that as well.

Update August 11, 2019
First test print showed:

  • I need to make the Internal/external snap bigger for a tighter hold
  • I need to add a break to the internal/external snap so they can't twist
  • I need to change the button hooks to angle then go down so that they can actually, y'know, go in the holes.
  • Meshes are totally an acceptable detail level
  • 4% scale seems right on the money, so I know what I'm doing there at least
