Summary

Introducing SmartSeed pixel strips. I came up with my SmartHole system for mounting seed pixels a while ago. It’s basically a way to feed a pixel from behind the prop and hold it in place using snug wire holes. This SmartSeed Strip expands on that using 2” or 4” spaced seeds to mount into a series of 1”, 1-1/2”, or 3” spaced SmartHoles. The strip has a track it mounts in which holds and hides the excess wire and lends strength to the assembly. Track comes in two varieties, low-profile squared-back track (SBT) and rounded-back track (RBT) to mount to round stock like PVC or metal conduit. The RBT matches the curvature of 1/2” schedule 40 PVC and on larger stock the sides of the cove hold the bottom off for better stability. Also unique to the RBT is that it is split in two with dovetails (DT) running lengthwise so the halves can be printed on their side without needing support! Both tracks have holes for zip-tie mounting and the holes are eased (EZT) to hopefully help the tie last longer. The Strip comes in 9” lengths with 9 SmartHoles, and is notched every inch so it can be snapped-to-length (STL) cleanly at those locations. (1-1/2” and 3” STL are in development). Strip is available for 1st generation seeds 1 (smaller seed, thinner wire) and 2nd generation SmartSeed+ (larger seed, thicker wire 2). My hope is that SmartSeed+ will also be compatible with new dual-data pixels. SBT track comes 9” also, and in 3-1/2” and 4-1/2” starters (the former to be used in conjunction with a 1” soffit clip, for instance) so you can offset the joints of track and strip for more strength. We will evaluate need for other sizes of Track. Soffit clip is a 1” section of track with a tab that slides between soffit and the J-channel it mounts to. Currently available in forward-firing, front-of-soffit varieties, but rear-of-soffit front- and down-firing are in development. There are corner Strips and corner Tracks (currently in just 1” spacings), also currently only in RBT varieties, as I imagine them being used with PVC window frames primarily. To complement the RBT there is a large collection of FlushFit elbows and connectors. The 1/2” sch 40 fittings are the most prolific with every angle you need for hexagons, octagons, stars, triangles, tees and straight connectors. The 1/2” thin wall collection is nearly as big. The 3/4” sch 40 is off to a good start with tees, straight connectors, 45 and 90. More to come.

1 Certified to work with Wally’s Lights and Okicoler (Amazon) and probably most other thin gauge seeds.
2 Certified to work with Visionary Light Shows and Wasatch Lights seeds with upgraded wire, 24-20 ga, and probably others with upgraded wire. Unknown if it works with 4-wire, dual-data seeds. Thank you to these vendors for providing seeds to test!
