The file 'Skimmer For Aquael ASAP300 Aquarium Filter 3D Printer Model' is (stl) file type, size is 546.3KB.
This is a modification of the excellent, simple, and affordable filter from Aquael. It enables the collection of surface water impurities.
The modification consists of a new pump housing (compatible with the original suction cups), a connection nozzle with an elbow (adjustable rotation angle), a 180-degree elbow, a suction tube, and two versions of intake floats (with optional shrimp protection).
The newer version of the float (with larger inlets) has greater buoyancy - requiring additional weight (see photos, weight of my piece of rock is 2.2g). This "feature" allows you to remove the weight during fish feeding, so the skimmer doesn't steal food from the fish. After feeding, place the weight back, and the skimmer will resume cleaning the water surface.
Both floats come with shrimp protection; print them and simply press them into the float.
Inside the pump housing, I added rails to adjust the suction force of water from outside of the skimmer. If all the holes in the housing are uncovered, the skimmer will not work correctly. This adjustment lets you fine-tune the suction power based on the type of filtration media used in the filter. In my case, the side inlets are completely covered, and only one grid is open at the front inlet. The covers were made from an old plastic card.
