Summary

This paper "peeler" and hex bushing are replacement parts for the Aurora AS1712X shredder. The "peeler" acts as a spacer between the cutting wheels and helps peel the paper away from the cutter axle/post as the paper is being shredded. Without it, paper tends to build up around the axle between the teeth. The bushing provides a smooth interface between the hex shaped axle and peeler.

These parts can break easily over time; esp. if you tend to abuse your shredder. Replacing them is tedious, but easy.

  • Open the shredder top.
  • Carefully remove the motor/cutter assembly. (make sure the brush springs don't fly out when you disconnect the motor wires.)
  • Stand the assembly on its side with the gears down.
  • Remove the non-gear side (now top) plate.
  • Remove the retaining rings from the cutter axle.
  • Remove the cutters and peelers one at a time until you get to the damaged/missing peeler.
  • Replace with newly printed parts.
  • Note the spiral pattern the teeth make so you can reassemble properly in reverse order.

The peeler is tricky to print as there's a ~0.25 mm raised ring around the bushing interface which is meant to keep some separation between the peeler and cutting wheels. The easiest way to achieve a print with this "inner ring" is to print the peeler on its narrow edge with supports. But, the inner ring may not really be needed (I haven't tried one without it in the shredder). If you want, you can remove it from the model and then print it flat on the bed for a quicker better-looking print.
