You can mount them against the wall the floor or connect them with each other in 90° angle or free rotating around the stick.
These mounts are designed for wood sticks with 25 mm diameter. But of cause you can scale it to your desired size.
Every piece has a flat surface to be printed on. But I reached the best results when I printed them on the open hole with an inside and outside Brim like shown in the one picture.
Depending on the weight your structure has to support, I would recommend a high Infill around 20%
