Desk lights are fine and convenient, but overhead lighting is better, both for reducing eyestrain and to reduce shadowing (imo). This is a pair of LED light mounts that fit over the end of any 16mm thick shelf (as pictured). In this instance the shelves are on twinny rails, so I have included a twinny cable tidy clip to neaten power routing.
Each mount employs 4 thin arc supports and secures by 6mm screws to the shelf underside. The mounts are a pair, one with cabling eyelets, one without, print both stl’s to include cable management. The thin arcs work because they are on opposing radius's making the mount particularly resistance to vertical deformation. Hence thin but strong. Printed in PETG for UV protection in a sunny location.
The twinny clips slot in and drop down to secure in the same way that the twinny shelf hangers do. I used a 2ft LED strip light with very low mass, but I believe that a normal fluorescent strip could still be hung off these brackets. Minimalist doesn't extend to the print time - it's about a 5h print per bracket (0.4noz / 0.15 layer).
Note: (1) The direct light mounts supplied with the strip light secure with a single (central) 20mm max length screw - 1 on each mount. A pilot hole is provided for this on my mounts. Print with supports (all that empty space doesn’t come for free!) you’ll end up with two bed supports and two mid supports that easily detach.
Note: (2) A ‘shelf edge checker’ I used to quickly check for shrinkage/sizing before committing to the full print is also included.
