Summary

I designed this butterfly valve controlled by a SG90 servo for some €3 to keep the temperature of my housed printers under control.

The actuating lever has a 15mm pinhole radius and it is supposed to work with a servo with a 15mm pinhole radius, leading to a 1:1 lever ratio and synchronous motion. The servo is supposed to turn by 90°. The servo’s 3-pin connector is routed through the square hole. The slit next to the servo mount is to organize the cable.

The grey butterfly halves are bolted together. I used ABS and I additionally bonded them together with Acetone.
The model is specifically designed to be printed with 0.6mm nozzle, 0.3mm layer height. Support is only needed for the 2 housing halves in the servo area.

The required hole in the foam plate is 94mm, which is exactly what my local hardware store holesaw was able to produce. My foam plates are 30mm thick, but this is less important for you.

Parts required:

  • 1x part of each printfile
  • 1x SG90 Servo incl mating rudder horn and clamping bolt
  • 2x screw 3x10 self-tapping (for the butterfly halves)
  • 7x screw 4X10 self-tapping (6x for the round housing, 1x for the actuating lever)
  • 2x screw 2x10 self-tapping (for servo fixation)
  • 1.5mm steel wire (e.g. from paper clip)
