Update: V2.0 also contains an alternative bottom cap, which can be used with pipes with female push joints. See new photo for example.
A set of end caps for 75mm PVC sewer pipes, which allow them to be used for storing things.
I originally designed this for storing welding rods for stick welders (which need to be kept dry), but it will work well for storing and transporting most long things.
Good uses for them include storing aluminium profiles, LED profiles and their diffusers, smaller pipes and rods.
75mm (OD) / 70mm (ID) PVC pipe is commonly used as sewer piping in Europe and available in most hardware stores at various lengths.
The project consists of three parts (one with two alternatives) + one bonus piece:
The design does not make use of the "quick connect" female fittings present in many such pipes, you can safely cut them off and use one pipe to make multiple smaller containers.
The screw-on cap has an internal indentation of about 15mm, which allows objects in the pipe to protrude out, making it easy to pull them out.
For welding rods, one pipe seems to hold about 4.8 kg of 3.2mm welding rods, just short of one full 5kg package.
The 75mm pipe is a good size because it can fit a lot of stuff, while being small enough to handle by most adults, even when heavy.
