Summary

Prototype Details

This is the model for a SECR-designed and SECR/SR-built van to Diagram 1426. Several of these vans were rebuilt with ventilated sides for use on London-Dover-Folkestone fruit traffic, subsequently labelled as Diagram 1427. This van survived into BR revenue-earning service, and several becoming departmental vans in the black livery.

There were both unfitted and vacuum fitted versions, and a brake cylinder has been provided for the latter. You will need to source vacuum pipes yourself, however!

Model Details

Please note a few caveats:

  • This model was designed around plans which were slightly mis-scaled, as a result please scale to 3.3% for 1:32. For 10mm you may wish to scale to 3.46%, but bear in mind this will affect the spacing of the W-irons (should still be well within tolerance)
  • The off-hand brake handle should properly be attached to a vee-hanger without a cam.
  • There were also variants with a dog-leg hinge in the brake lever - neither of which I have modelled because, at this point, I am 'done' with this!

Third Party Components

  • The transfers, eyelets and chains were supplied by Just the Ticket.
  • The W-Irons are suppled by John Dixon in his Iron Mink design and are used under CC-BY-NC-SA license.
  • The wheels are from slaters, though in my collection you will find those that can be 3D printed instead.
