Summary

Here is the jig (and the high-flying secret!) for the wing of Apache24c2, a 2024 Science Olympiad Flight event design. In addition to the wing jig's stl files, Apache24c2 full-size plan as well as laser-cut files are also uploaded at the "Files" section here. In addition to no-dihedral and no-wingtipplate on all Apache24*, Apache24c2 adapted a significant wash-out angle, not wash-in, at wingtips. This idea came from Prandtl's 1933 paper (and as illustrated by NASA experimental flying wings since 2016), where it essentially says a bell-shape spanload (lift distribution) has less induced drag than the famous elliptical spanload that is deployed on many airplanes. To build Apache24c2 with better accuracy, a 3d printed wing jig is present here.

Apache24c2 is an advanced design with many details. There is no construction guide for it. For beginners, please check out Apache24s design at https://youtu.be/duHd2XiFhw8 and https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:6313844. Fifteen Apache24s flew successfully at a 2023 summer workshop. A derived Apache24s5 placed third at Southern California State at Caltech on 4/6/2024!! Competition was so fierce. Kudos to many students and coaches who achieved so much at this year's SO FLIGHT event.
