The file '[SCAD] Gutter & Pipe Filter Dirt Guard (aka Leaf Catcher) With Rim 3D Printer Model' is (scad, stl) file type, size is 4.3MB.

Summary

This remix provides a customizable scad for the original gutter & pipe filter (commonly referred to as a leaf catcher in USA) that FixMyRoof had created.

Unlike other leaf catchers found on Thingiverse, this design has the most robust legs (it's a plank instead of a thin stick). The robustness afford some flex when printing in PETG, but try not to push your luck :)

I have also added a "rim" to prevent the gutter filter/leaf catcher from falling through the downspout drain.

With the scad, you can:

  • Customize the diameter of the "legs" of the gutter filter/leaf catcher to fit your downspout drain diameter.
  • You can also specify the extra diameter and thickness of the "rim".

How to open the scad file:
NOTE: thingiverse's Customize button does not seem to do import STLs as components. You must use OpenSCAD if you wish to tweak dimensions.

  • You can open the scad file in OpenSCAD.
  • Be sure to also have the "MK6_Gutter_Filter_Final_repaired.stl" file in the same folder as the scad file. Otherwise the scad file will not be able to import all the pieces.
  • All the configurable parameters are at the top of the scad file. While OpenSCAD is unit-less, most slicers will treat it as millimeters.

The scad file should also support Thingiverse's "customizer" function. I havent mucked around with that much, so YMMV.

Files:

  • gutter_filter_modified.scad is the parameterized scad file.
  • MK6_Gutter_Filter_Final_repaired.stl is the repaired version of FixMyRoof's original design. The mesh was broken (not closed), and had to be repaired to interop with OpenSCAD. It was auto-repaired via Microsoft 3D Builder.
  • gutter_filter_modified_diameter_56mm.stl is an example STL file exported from OpenSCAD, with the legs diameter at 56mm.

Notes on printing:

  • Print upside down (with legs pointing up towards the sky).
  • With rims, you would likely want some snug/organic support to prevent the rims from drooping if the trim is more than a 2-3 mm sticking out.
