Summary

I frequently upgrade 3D printers so why not improve a small CNC router?

Through these upgrades you will:

  • Switch to a higher power and RPM Dremel 3000. It improves the performance of the router and still still be removed to use by hand.
  • Implement closed loop S42B stepper motors. These can supply more torque than the standard steppers, are much quieter and will improve accuracy.
  • Switch to an open source 32 bit mainboard running Marlin including an LCD display/controller. No laptop needed anymore.
  • Delete the separate power brick. Less clutter.
  • Have the Dremel controlled directly by the firmware via relay.
