Sailfin-Extruder (MM remix for Flying Bear Ghost 5)
I decided to switch to direct drive extruder and found a impressive Sailfin design. It is compact, lightweight, requires minimum extra parts and gives excellent printing results. Original design and extra information may be found in https://github.com/CroXY3D/Sailfin-Extruder repository.
However I needed some adjustments:
For this assemble you will need a BMG clone from the original printer, a 3x12mm pin (can be replaced with an M3 bolt), and a LDO NEMA 14 motor (the most expensive part of this upgrade). And of course a few M3 and brass inserts fasteners.
After installing E0 steps per mm configuration need to be adjusted as well as current for E0 driver. Retractions configuration may be optimized up to 0.6-1mm with speed 23-25mm/s values.
My configuration changes for original Flying Bear Ghost 5 firmware (only as reference values):
>DEFAULT_E0_STEPS_PER_UNIT 689>DEFAULT_E0_MAX_FEEDRATE 100>DEFAULT_E0_MAX_ACCELERATION 3000>DEFAULT_RETRACT_ACCELERATION 2500>DEFAULT_EJERK 5.0
Please check out my mount adapter for Flying Bear Ghost 5 original carriage (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5362464) too.
