Made this for our trip to BSC as I'm taking intermediate racing course by RYA. Im sure anymore who's taking RYA's course or an instructor would love this as I personally also really loved it. For a double sided version just print two simultaniuely and glue the two together.
This looks super neat and good but the quality depends on wether you have a non AMS single extruder printer as me or a fancy bamboo one since for me the nozzle made a line on the "R" as it scratches through it since the red Y is actually just 1-2 layers below the other "R" & "Y" and I could have easily made the opposite but I tried to keep at the same level and neat.
To make your life easier just use the pre-aligned 3mf files for SE (single extruder) or AMS (automatic material management system)
For Single Non AMS printer (SUPER IMPORTANT EACH STEP IS CRUCIAL YOU MIGHT FAIL THE PRINT WITHOUT READING IT THROUGH):
Disable any sort of auto lock to build plate features as the two stls that I've designed fits perfectly and auto-drop to print bed option ruins it. To print this generate two gcode files, the first one is the main tag and you can use the option in cura:
extensions>post processsion>modify gcode>filament change
and enter the exact layer where the RYA starts to print onto the tag and when printing insert the new dark purple of black filament.
For the second gcode open up the red Y file !IMPORTANT DO NOT AUTO DROP TO BUILD PLATE THIS IS CATASTROPHIC! and also make sure if your in cura toggle OFF the REMOVE EMPTY FIRST LAYER under mesh fix otherwise the sliced gcode will still print to the build plate.
After the tag is finished printing change filament to red (a way to fix z axis testing build plate and crashing into the build print the whole thing ON THE SIDE OF THE BUILD PLATE away from the middle) and immediately print the other gcode of the red Y and this is where things gets exciting as the printer will go over the R and print the missing layers from the Y in red to match the R and the Y. Keep in mind its normal for the nozzle to leave a scratch on one if the letters.
For AMS or multi extruder prints:
import the 3mf file and align each file with its color. If you somehow wanna make your life harder there are raw stls there and you'll have a great time trying to align it your self lol
