We've built a Hue-compatible RGB LED floating light sculpture housed in an aluminium frame, inspired by the REFLEKTION concept: https://reflektion.shop/
Our sculpture uses cheap RGBW LED strips from China, a Gledopto Zigbee controller, aluminium LED profiles and some other DIY parts you can order online. You can find a rough build guide on my blog here: http://style.oversubstance.net/2020/08/create-a-hue-compatible-diy-led-light-sculpture/
The frame is made out of pieces of aluminium LED profiles that are kept together using the corner and end connectors you can download here. They were designed to fit this profile specifically: https://www.profielgigant.nl/product/led-profiel-slim01zwart/
The connectors will probably not fit any other model. There is a 3mm hole in the connectors to fit a transparent acrylic spacer rod. Connector design by Marrit Hoffmans.
Check out our light art cycling through colours on Instagram for an idea of what it looks like in action: https://www.instagram.com/p/CDlgbVUJO4v/
This same concept could be used for actual lighting purposes, instead of art, by creating more functional frame shapes.
Update: For an alternative connector for Muzata U profiles check out Dan Gardiner's design!
