Summary

With plans to develop and stockpile colored resin, making my own jars seemed like the most cost effective approach. I've previously designed some, but want something that could store 200 to 300ml without using too much filament or resin to create them. The wall are only 2mm thick, with the base 3 to 4mm. Print with 100% infill and 3 to 4 wall thickness. It will also help to make sure that overlap is at least 15 to 25% for walls and inflill.

Based on metal milk cannisters, the jar is designed with two lips to reduce the chance of leakage. Of course, given the nature of 3D printing, nearly water tight is the best one can do, without taking some precautions.

Precaution #1 (if printed with filament)

  • If using for resin storage, coat the interior wall with resin to seal any space between print layers and to prevent liquid from soaking into filament layers.

Precaution #2

  • Add a layer of rubber / silicon to the interior of the cap or around the neck of the container, just below the threading of the neck where edge of the cap rests when screwed tight.

Precaution #3

  • Put a rubberband around the container neck below the threading.
