Summary

I liked the original Angular Dice Tower, but there were a few bits I wanted to change. So I took the original elegant OpenSCAD code and hammered my own ugly code around it. The things I changed, from the bottom up, were:

  • Added a 'footing'.
  • In ABS the slope of the exit ramp didn't print well, so I filled in that area.
  • On top, I replaced the square entrance funnel with a slightly larger rounded one, eliminating those deadly (and breakable) pointy corners.
  • Extended the height of the divider at the entrance.
  • Now added folding catch trays.

Not much, but I like it.

EDIT 1/16/15: Ok, so I finally got the catch trays done, and I'm really pleased with how they came out. I'd already placed the holes for the hinge point on the tower, so now there are trays that latch into those holes, and, they fold up against the tower for storage.

Just a couple of gotcha's tho. If you scale the tower to get a different size, the scaling must be uniform (scalex = scaley = scalez) or else the trays won't fit. The trays have to be scaled the same, of course. The only change to the tower, is the addition of catches, so that the trays snap and hold in place when folded. If you already printed a tower that you want to add trays to, well, you're out of luck on the catches.

Note: Unlike the original, this is not available in customizer. Customizer has done more than anything to pollute Thingiverse to the point of unusability, and I will never use it. If you want to change the size, just use the scaling factors on your printer software.
