Summary

A superb stl file of the post WWI era Battleship California BB-44, which was in Pearl Harbor on Dec 7th, 1941. The ship was moderately damaged by a pair of torpedoes and a bomb, but a fire disabled the ship's electrical system, preventing the pumps from being used to keep the ship afloat. California slowly filled with water over the following three days and eventually sank. Her crew suffered heavy casualties in the attack and four men were awarded the Medal of Honor for their actions during the attack. She was raised in April 1942, repaired and heavily rebuilt, and returned to service in January 1944. This is the rebuilt version of the ship, as she would have been when returning to the war in 1944.

This remix has enlarged the ship to about 950mm (37.5 inches), doubled shored and hollowed the hull, removed the top and separated the available pieces for separate printing. The prop shafts have been hollowed out for easy RC work. The secondary guns have two versions in the file, one with larger barrels for easier printing. Refer to the full file for the total number of each gun needed.

While the top deck still has multiple separate pieces grouped in the 3mf file, those left grouped did not seem to pose a terrible print hazard, but as many individual guns that I could remove and include in the separate file, I did. You may also want to slice or separate some of the masts and such to minimize potential problems. The original California stl file in its entirety is also included to help with placement.

This is another in my series of collecting RC suitable warships, KMS Bismarck, HMS Duke of York, USS California, USS Yorktown and the IJN Kongo, but I will probably not start this print project for sometime. My method is to FDM print the hull and all other parts are resin printed. Recommend to use the 3mf file in 3D Builder to slice into sections to fit on your printer, as needed.

2/17/22 - Updated the rear of the hull to allow prop shafts and removed some interior to make room for motor, mounts, shafts, etc.

4/22/22: Uploaded reinforced radar and mast grids, AA guns etc. I also added a better detailed version of the floatplane (Kingfisher) I made to go with this model.

8/16/22: Uploaded Rev 2 of the Kingfisher with a better shaped/scaled tail
