Summary

The great KMS Bismarck by TheFoxInTheBox begged to be made into an RC version. While the size was great, the portions needed to be sliced to fit my Ender 3 and Elegoo Saturn, so just thought I would share the work.

Bismarck was the first of two Bismarck-class battleships built for Nazi Germany's Kriegsmarine. Bismarck and her sister ship Tirpitz were the largest battleships ever built by Germany, and two of the largest built by any European power.

The 3mf file contains all parts grouped for easy separation. Each stl file is each piece that should fit on most larger scale printers. The prop shafts have been hollowed out for easy RC work. Many of the small details (railing, rigging, etc. ) will obviously not print, but my experience has been when printing the deck portions in resin these do not impede the printing and only some minor cleanup is needed.

Overall she measures about 950mm or just over 37" long.

This is another in my series of collecting RC suitable warships, but I will probably not start this print project for sometime. My method is to FDM print the hull and all other parts are resin printed. Printers might want to use the 3mf file in 3D Builder to slice into sections to fit on your printer, as needed, unless the stl sectioned files will work and fit on your printer.

2/16/2022 - Edited Hull 5 stl file to make cut-outs for prop shafts and separated two rudders.

9/28/22 - Had a request to split the main turrets apart from the decks, so added a separate Turret file (you will obviously need to print 4) and new Deck pieces 2, 3, 7 & 8 - these are marked 'b' and have the main turrets removed.

Note - I will be printing this at 150%, which is the maximum size I can get each cross section of the hull on my Ender 3 build plate. The deck pieces will be split in half to fit on my Saturn printer. I just did this for my USS California and it worked great. This will get the finished model about 54" long.

4/27/24 - Uploaded two new file for decks 5 and 6, in case anyone has any slicing issues - I recommend the 'b' files, even though I had no issues with the other stl files in both Cura and Chitu. The new 'b' files have been merged, so all objects should be good.

5/28/24 - Received note that Hull 4 needed the prop holes re-aligned, so new Hull4B version uploaded.
