The file 'RBA – House 5 3D Printer Model' is (stl) file type, size is 592.1KB.
A 1:100 scale concept model for a house in Western Australia. The relatively flat, narrow site and the local council interpretation of planning laws conspired to create the interesting 3rd floor mansard roof form.
The project was modeled in Archicad, where it was broken into small enough parts to fit the build plate. This also allows for the client to take apart the model and get a better idea of the spaces. The parts were then cleaned with Netfabb and printed on the Makerbot Replicator 2.
Though the model pieces should fit on our build plate at 1:100 scale we had numerous issues with the printer at this scale due possibly to the proximity to the edge of the build plate. This issue seemed to be resolved by reducing the scale ever so slightly down to nominally 1:110. The small walls that are 14cm in length on many of the models were there for scaling purposes and can be discarded after printing.
A little bit of glue and post production work was required for items like louvres and balustrades, but overall this is probably our most successful model to date.
