Summary

THIS DESIGN HAS NOT BEEN FLOWN AND SHOULD BE CONSIDERED EXPERIMENTAL
(If you attempt to launch, it is as your own risk. Please read more below)

A roughly 2/15 scale model rocket of the Rapier SAM.

This rocket was designed using publicly available photographs of Rapier SAM rockets with some creative liberties taken to meet the requirements to satisfy a safe launch platform for Estes engines.

(The diameter of the body is twice the scale of the length. However does not impede launch capability)

Engine Compatibility:
Estes E & D sized motors of all configurations. D sized motors will need an E to D adapter.

IMPORTANT
Reference max take-off weights from Estes engine chart before any launch. Your take off weight can and will vary based on settings chosen, chosen parachute, shock cord, and other misc. items.
https://estesrockets.com/wp-content/uploads/Educator/Estes_Engine_Chart.pdf

Parachute Recommendations:
18 inch or larger desired.
Attached to nosecone.

Shock Cord Recommendations:
18 inch min.
Attached to body and nosecone.

Assembly:
Parts should be glued/ bonded together. JB Weld for Plastic and Gorilla Glue have worked for me.

Currently Missing Features:

  1. Launch Rail Guide (Launch Lug) - The launch rail guide is planned to be integrated internally, keeping the exterior smooth and clean. Users can glue an external one with strong plastic adhesive.

  2. Inner Mounting Loops - Shock cord loops and parachute loops need to be added internally for user parachute and shock cord attachment. Users can glue one with strong plastic adhesive. - COMPLETE

Goals of project: Create a fully 3D printable Model Rocket that only requires shock cord, motor, parachute to be considered flight ready.

If you do launch, please share your videos, photos, and feedback. Due to corona virus, taking a trip to a safe test site is not possible at this time for myself.
