Summary

This originally was desingned to be a remote-contollable minibar to take with you when chilling in the park. The Body has space for bottles or other stuff which can be accessed through the front door. I used some insulating sheets on the inner walls and use cool packs to keep the drinks cool over time. Sadly R2D2 refuses to move with too much weight in his body and he tends to tip over easily, which makes him more of a stay-at-home-astromech.
The Electronics and Battery are located beneath the body.

The Dome can be rotated freely and offers space for:

  • a GoPro (i used a fake, let me know if it needs changes for the original)
  • a frontlight (i butchered an old 7V Ikea-Lamp and soldered it to a seperate battery)
  • a JBL GO2
  • a powerbank

I designed this project a few years back as my first multipart Fusion 360 Project and never got to publish it properly. Since the project is somewhat bigger I will try to add more documentation later as I get some resonance (so please let me know what is missing).

The model is roughly 63 cm Tall, when put on wheels. It is split into multyple parts that are then connected with some (or rather a lot) M3 screws and nuts. I built this thing in 2022 so I do not remember the amounts of each screw needed for this build. However you will need a lot of M3 screws ranging from 10 to 70 mm in length and some other parts listed more precisely in the BOM.

I put an ESP8266, a 12V Battery made of Li-Ion-Cells,a Buck-converter, a Motor Driver and two Motors with belts connected to the wheels in there. For now I will not publish any code since I used a self-written App to control the R2D2 via a network the ESP created with my mobile phone, which doesn't seem to be a very safe method.
Instead I recommend using a second ESP or Arduion as a controller and send data via an RF-module or Bluetooth. There are some Tutorials and examplecodes that should work ootb.

The outer rim of the wheels are made from two-component-silicone using a mold (coming soon).
