LONG TERM USE UPDATE I've been using the mods in this kit and from parts 2 and 3 ever since I made them back in early 2017. I've had very little issues with the printer and it's pretty much a "turn on and print" printer.. no issues with bed leveling after disabling the stepper motor timeout setting in the firmware. It's been a reliable printer every time I use it from fine 0.04 layer height prints to 0.8 layer height vases up to 120mm/s print speed. Also along the way I added a magnetic flexible build plate which has been a nice improvement in convenience.. as well as a set of TMC2208 drivers which are super quiet.
This is part 1 of 3 of my collection of mods for the Flsun I3 printer. This is the most important mod out of all three parts. These mods will help stabilize the X and Z axis and fix z wobble and most layer line issues. It does require hardware upgrades, but they are relatively inexpensive.
Use the photo with the ruler as a guideline for spacing. Also, there is about 2-3mm of space between the leadscrew and the motor rod inside the coupler.
Don't forget to change the Z_MAX_POS to 255mm like I did and have your first 250mm print stop at 220! :)
*Update 5/24/2017 - added photos of a recent print and for the dimensions for the anti-backlash nuts
*Update 6/29/2017 - Printing smoothly at 100mm/s. With all the mods in this series, I can easily go up to 120mm/s. https://youtu.be/6qQ_azx2F1E?t=16
Top Rods Holder -- These are the top brackets which are modified from the original to have a tighter fit and a hole for the leadscrew.
Lead Screw Wobble Brackets -- These use skateboard bearings to keep the leadscrew in a fixed axis and aligned with the top rods holder.
XZ Carriages fitted for Anti-Backlash Nuts - Left & Right -- These will fit anti-backlash nuts and igus delrin bearings. You can use the steel linear bearings but you may have to sand the holes out a bit.
XZ Carriages Original Fittings - Left & Right -- To fit steel bearings and regular nut.
Z Limit Switch Mount -- Modified to fit over the Lead Screw Wobble Brackets and for better stability.
Hotend X Carriage -- Adjusted fan mounts for better alignment. Modified belt holes for easier mounting. Modified to fit igus bearings.
I have included the original XZ brackets so you don't have to use the anti-backlash nuts but in order to get the full benefit, I recommend using the modified version.
