QX11-MAGA U-Post Support
This is a PRACTICAL example of stuff I do all the time with my 3D Printer. The chances anybody needs this thingy is REMOTE, but you can certainly download and study it, and maybe adopt it to a use you have.
I am putting up a Dog-Fence with 6’ U-posts (4’ when in ground) and welded wire fencing.
The corner posts need to be supported at the corners to act against the force of the fencing.
I have some 6’ sections of ½’ Galvanized Pipe around, and an 1-1/4” Diameter custom cut closet rod, so I’ve designed an adaptor that supports my corners using these dimensions.
The Corner Post Adaptor Fastener Hole is for a ¼”-20 bolt through. 6mm is a tight fit, and you’ll have to drill out the hole in the U-Post to accommodate the slightly larger 6mm machine bolt.
If you’re digging the vibe, here’s my parts list:

Galvanized ½” pipe: https://www.lowes.com/pd/Southland-Pipe-1-2-in-x-72-in-150-PSI-Galvanized-Pipe/1000228013
And if you hit a buried ½” copper tubing PROPANE line, this can come in handy: https://www.menards.com/main/plumbing/rough-plumbing/pipe-tubing-hoses-fittings-accessories/fittings/brass-fittings/brass-compression-fittings/1-2-od-lead-free-straight-compression-union/p-1444442651685-c-9433.htm?tid=5634849103712204788&ipos=2
But the real idea here is to design your adaptor to accommodate what you have, or can easily and inexpensively obtain! My set-up is quite sturdy, I must say!
There are holes in the U-Posts that I am going to use to my advantage to secure the corner-brace for the 3-D printed Galvanized-Pipe adaptor. The angle to accomplish my task is 57 degrees out from the post, 33 degrees about the plane of the ground. I’m cutting the 1-1/4 Closet Rod into 1’ lengths to use as stakes to secure the ground side of the 6’ Galvanized-Pipe supports. My corner supports have clearance for the plastic Thread-Protectors on the Black-Pipe. You never know when I might have to steal one for a different project!!!
I made these out of PLA. I would recommend using ABS or something NOT biodegradable because this is an outdoor project. Anyway. It’s what I had.
I created the Bodies in FUSION 360. I’ve exported the bodies as separate STEP files that you may use for manipulating in a CAD environment. Have fun, and MAGA, one Thingi at a time!
-This was sliced and coded using ReplicatorG employing 2 shells (3 total) using PLA.
REQUEST: Please help me improve my sharing! STEP files have proven reliable for me to transport file between different CAD platforms. If STEPs are a problem for you, please let me know what other common and relatively generic Cad format works better for you.
