Summary

UPDATE 3/18/2024
By request I added a new club adapter ring with no threads and a hole for a standard golf club shaft 12.70mm. I also added a cross 3mm hole so you can pin the shaft to the adapter with a 3mm bolt. I highly suggest using this so your controller does not go flying off the shaft. I do not think glue alone is secure enough.

UPDATE 12/8/2023;
Some people were worried about the strength of where the club shaft hub attaches to the clamp ring. V2 now has that all strengthened up with supports and more material which you can clearly see if you compare the 2 STL designs. Enjoy.

I do like to golf in VR. I saw online a company selling a Quest 3 golf club adapter and I liked the design. It looked very balanced and did not block the tracking sensors in any way. Thus I decided to design my own. This is not a copy of their design (I could have done that) but is a more simplistic design anyone can 3D print. The club you can buy is from DeadeyeVR.

So this project is my work but I did use a remix of my original Quest 3 controller clamp for the Sanlaki magnetic gun stock I designed. robiwan303 remixed my Q3 controller clamp and added better tracking LED notches and a nice little clamp block you can 3D print instead of using a bolt and nut from my original design. Works great. Robiwan's remix of my design is here:

OK to print this. You do need some supports in one small area. That is under the club shaft area. But you do not need supports for the rest of the ring. In fact you do not need them there or want them as the left over mess from removing the supports will change the fit to the controller. My original Q3 clamp and Robiwan's do not need supports to print. However if you turn on supports you will find you will get them on the ring too. So what I did is in Cura I set support overhang to 60%. This removed the supports for the ring but added them for the club shaft module. There is a small area of the ring to the left that has supports but no big deal. You can also just use custom supports in the area that needs it. See my image showing supports to get the idea.

In the end this was designed for a VERY easy print!

The club shaft grip is also an easy print. However if your printer is not dimensionally tuned, I suggest printing that part at 102%. And if that is the case print the club ring at 102% as well. My printer (Ender 3 V2) is very well tuned and everything fit perfectly for me. But I know most people do not tune to my standards, so if you are worried about that just print everything at 102% and you should be good.

Also set your slicer for a 6 wall count for strength. 40% infill.

As for the pipe I used. I had some 8" x 1/2" anodized pipe left over when I made my Sanlaki magnetic gun stock. So this is designed around that specific pipe. And let me tell you. It adds some good weight so the club and feels better. It's really good I think.

To get the pipe I used here is the link.

Please note, if you just go to a hardware store and buy galvanized 1/2" pipe, it won't work! Galvanized pipe has a larger outside diameter than these pipes do. The pipe I linked above is 21mm.

So I printed this and tested in in Golf+
It worked perfectly with no tracking issues due to the face angle in relation to the club shaft. So many other companies rebrand their Q2 clubs and they will not work with a Q3 controller. There is no tracking ring on Q3 so the face of the controller MUST be visible by the headset.

Oh and for walkabout mini golf, you have to set the angle. Sorry I do not know what that should be set to, so you will have to test and adjust. But so you know the angle of the face of the Q3 controller to the club shaft is 35 degrees. That should work.

Enjoy!
