I live in the south. I drink sweet tea from a quart sized mason jar and I'm proud of it. I'm not ashamed to roll down my car window while wearing a red white & blue bandana; blasting Lee Greenwood and shouting "MURICA" from my moving vehicle. But the deep state has been encouraging car manufacturers to provide undersized car beverage holders, discriminating against proud southerners who want nothing more than life, liberty, and the opportunity to travel freely in this great country while drinking sweet tea from a large container which was originally designed for preserving bulk amounts of fruit from spoiling over time. (deep breath).
The closed-minded thugs who designed my car beverage holder believe that 87mm wide is enough. I mean "who needs a 96mm wide cup? Do you really need rounded corners at 110mm? What sane citizen of this great land could possibly need an affixed glass handle carved out of the side of a giant mason-jar sized holder? My fellow Americans. I am that man.
This great country was founded by bitter, disgruntled citizens and the inconveniences that "the man" was placing on their tea. Shouting "no taxation without representation," they staged rebellion against society for the prejudicial closed-mind limitations of government intervention. Now in the year 2020, the pains of our first world lifestyle still echo true to the statements made that unforgettable night of pouring tea into the harbor.
Let our rebellion echo true to the sentiment of the rebellion at Griffin’s Wharf! We will not sit silently while they marginalize our need for large cup holders! We will print our own "ghost beverage holders!"
This cup adapter was designed to fit a "standard" beverage holder tightly and adapt for room to fit a standard quart mason jar (even a handle cutout for those who need them). Check your local laws. This beverage holder may not be legal for use in some states.
A bit of info about sizing: There are currently three mason jar adapter models of different sizes... 87mm, 83mm, and 79mm -- all models are the same jar size (QUART!) only with different sized bases for different sized cars.
The 87mm size seems to be the standard for large pick-em-up trucks. Don't even try to print this one unless you have a 1 ton or above, lightweight. Oh, it also fits in minivans... but only tough ones driven by southerners with attitude.
The smallest one is a 79mm. This fits nicely into the OEM cup holders on a jeep, but only when the tires are 33" or larger. Some users have noted that a lift kit is required for this cup holder to work properly.
If you have a factory cup holder smaller than 79mm (such as one that would come in a PRIUS), you don't need this. Your soy decaf latte fits fine in the factory cup holder, Nancy.
The cell phone holder version was a late addition because someone from New England wanted one. Apparently you can't even text and drive in his state, so he needed a place to stash his phone with a cord slot. BOOM. Your wish has been granted.
OK -- FUN STUFF ASIDE...
This was designed with tapered edges inside and out, in order to print it upright without supports. In Cura, there's a setting called "fuzzy skin" which puts that nice little textured outer edge on this. It takes a bit longer to print but it really seems to add rigidity and makes it look less like a 3D print. I did this one in black PETG at 235c with zero supports. It took about 13 hours with 15% infill and 1.2mm walls (3 passes on a .4 nozzle)
