I'm so excited to share this idea! We like to do puzzles, and we like to have them dry mounted to put on the wall. Ideally we'd frame them, but framing is so expensive it's just crazy. So when my girlfriend asked if I could just 3D print a frame I was like "well... I mean... yeah..." Of course, the puzzle was a panoramic puzzle more than three feet wide. Sure wasn't going to be printing that on my MK2 MMU. It was obviously necessary to split the frame into multiple pieces, but how many, and how would they fit together? So what we have here is the ultimate expression of puzzle frames. A puzzle puzzle frame.

Although I originally made the design for a specific panoramic puzzle (that we gave away as a gift) I later wanted to do another (badass Star Wars) puzzle. I went back through and parameterized (nearly) everything so that the same design can be used for a puzzle of just about any size. Assuming you have a puzzle that is glued and (preferably, though not necessarily) dry mounted, you will just need to take its measurements and decide how thick/wide you want the frame itself to be. Based on all that the model will recalculate and produce the number of pieces you will need. Obviously you'll only need to export an STL for the horizontal sides, one for the vertical sides, and the corners, and print a bunch of each, but the model will calculate the exact size to create an even division for the width/height. I hope that's clear.
