The original Prusa i3 frame suffers of one important problem: bed and frame are not really stiff connected, which causes displacement of layers and declines printing precision.
To improve the stability, here comes a very low cost solution:
A connection of the main frame (z-axis) with the base (y-axis). This easy connection uses only some parts: 2 clamps, 2 connectors for the rods and 3 additional threaded rods (one in exchange to the original one, two additional ones).
BOM:
2 threaded rods, diameter: 6mm, length: 350 mm,
1 threaded rod diameter: 8 mm, length: at least 260 mm (replaces the original rod of the base)
4 nuts M6,
2 clamps (printable),
2 connectors (printable).
Optional:
4 nuts M8 to fix the rod connectors.
UPDATE 29-10-2016:
Depending to material, the initial clamp can bend after a while. That´s why i uploaded a stronger version with a ribbing. The old clamp is not available anymore.
