In 2021, all updates and uploads of new models were moved to PrusaPrinters, of course still free and under the same conditions... :)

Jure Korber made this really nice design for a 40mm Prusa fan adapter. To fit a 40mm fan on the Original Prusa i3, the fan has to bend outwards to avid collision with the left X axis motor mount. Jura made it tilt upwards as well, saving vertical space and better intake of cooling air.

I was looking for a minimal design, but still with a strong construction. Editing the original STL file is nearly impossible as it has a lots of curved surfaces. I decided to start all over with the fan specification and the twist... and ended up with a design very close to the original :-)

What has changed:

  • Smaller 40mm fan base and re-enforcement for screws.
  • Maximize air flow for cooling - No grill and adapter air outlet matches E3D air inlet.
  • Thicker base for better Prusa mount.
  • Fits Original Prusa i3 MK2 and MK2S.
  • Close to minimal solution.

For assembly you will need four M3 10mm screws for the 40mm fan and four M3 10 or 12mm screws. See photos.

I use the 40mm fan SILENT 4 as it is quiet and moves enough air for cooling (eBay USD $10). The best solution is still the fan from Noctura, but at a higher price tag. Both the 10mm and the 20mm Noctura fan will fit the adapter without collision.

Update: Added model with M3 threading for screws mounting the Fan.
