The Soviet Alfa Class nuclear powered attack submarine, is one of the fastest submarines ever made, able to reach speeds of 41 knots submerged, making it necessary for NATO to develop new torpedoes fast enough to hit an Alfa. Its speed comes from its Liquid Metal Fast Reactor (LMFR).
