With today's smartphones you can never be sure whether your camera is not being used surreptitiously by a nosy app or a rogue trojan. Surreptitiously accessing you main camera, e.g. while you are answering a call, may e.g. reveal your location or details of your home and your family.

This shutter gives you physical control over what your main camera is seeing at what point in time.

Update 28 Feb. 2021:

I added a base to increase the bonding area. Also the base gives you more flexibility in the selection of the sticker tape, in particular its thickness.

The shutter can now be inserted after assembly.

Update 27 Feb. 2021:

Make sure that your extrusion rate is high enough to fill the shutter without observation slits. To help I added a third 0.3 mm layer to the shutter. Check lightproofness by holding the camera towards bright sunlight while the shutter is closed.

Last night I was not aware that I had left the LED turned on. Therefore I added an optional LED window for the shutter.

Proceed as follows:

• Download and install OpenSCAD from www.openscad.org as required.
• As the camera windows' formats vary across the range of today's smartphones, you will have to adapt the two parameters x_window and y_window in the enclosed OpenSCAD source file to fit your specific device before exporting the .stl files from OpenSCAD for slicing and printing. The enclosed .stl files match my Samsung S5 Otter Box camera window.
• You may optionally specify a LED window.

After printing:

• Glue the base to the frame. I use Revell Contact PROFESSIONAL. Let it dry.
• Adhere the base & frame assembly to your smartphone with dual-sided sticker tape.
• Insert the shutter lid into the frame.
