This is a print in place planetary gear business card I designed. It makes use of a 36 tooth ring gear with 3 12 tooth planetary gears and a 12 tooth sun gear. The ring gear and planetary gears are herringbone gears. These herringbone gears are the only retention system for the ring gear. Spinning the outer ring gear rotates all of the other gears.
The entire design is print in place and works after pulling it from the build plate. The card is 50.9mm x 88.6mm x 3.4mm.
After printing, the gears might be a little stuck. Press around the exterior of the gears and then apply force to the main ring gear. It is stronger than youll expect so don't be afraid to torque the ring gear. Everything should snap free and after spinning for a little bit, everything should be quite smooth.
