Summary

I really liked the hinges designed by rohingosling (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2187167) but I really don't like using OpenSCAD. So I decided to remodel the hinge in Onshape. This project is designed to enable people to customise hinges without having to install software but I have included the STEP files if you prefer modelling in a different software and a sample STL file (the ones I used for my resin printer enclosure) to get you started.

Directions
To customise the hinge all you have to do is:

  • Make an Onshape account for free if you haven't already
  • Click on the link below
  • Click the blue "Make a copy to edit" button
  • Change the variables to customise the hinge
  • Select Male A & Female A in the parts tab (or Male B & Female B if you prefer the design) and then right-click the highlighted parts and click export
  • Choose STL for the format, millimetres for the units, fine for the resolution and download for the options.
  • Click the "OK" button and save it in your downloads folder.

Notes

  • You may need to adjust the leaf tolerance and the pin tolerance to suit your printer and the smaller the layer height the better the hinge will work.
  • You can always add a bit of machine oil to make it turn smoother
  • The cutaway variable enables the hinge to rotate back on itself so that the smallest angle is less than 90 degrees. Make this 0 if you don't want that
