Summary

Primbal V3 is here. Over a year ago I released the original Primbal, one of the only 3D printable brushless gimbal designs. Since then I have been experimenting and revising the design to make Primbal even better.

Primbal V3 implements stronger, stiffer arms that make the gimbal more resistant to vibrations. The camera mount is also more rigid, with a system to hold the camera from both the back and front. Additionally, there are now four different isolator options to suite your fancy. The result is a more robust, versatile gimbal to bring you silky smooth video.

This gimbal is composed of 14 printed parts that are all printer friendly. All STLs are in the proper printing position, no reorienting required. All three axis (pitch, roll, yaw) are fully adjustable to perfectly balance the gimbal. This gimbal is designed to best perform with a Xiaomi Yi, but it can be modified to fit GoPros and other similar action cams.

Specs:

Parts:
14 Printed

Hardware:
2 x M1.6 Bolt and Nut 12mm (M2 works as well)
8 x M2 Bolt 8mm
2 x M2 Nut
4 x M3 Bolt 4mm
2 x M3 Bolt 6mm

Motors:
2804 size for yaw (35mm diameter)
2206/2804 size for roll
2206 size for pitch (28mm diameter)

Confirmed to Fit:
Hobbyking 2804-210Kv
Hobbyking 2206-140Kv
Rctimer GBM2804
Might Fit:
Quanum 2208
DYS BGM2208

Controller:
Any 3 axis brushless gimbal controller to externally control the gimbal. I recommend a Storm32 board.

Weight:
Approximately 250g with camera, 175g without

Range of Motion
Pitch: -90 +90
Roll: -45 +45
Yaw: Depends on wiring

Balancing:

Balancing on the roll and yaw axes is done through loosening the bolts holding the arms to the roll/yaw motors and sliding the bolt spacer along the adjustment slot. For the pitch axis a similar thing is done with the pitch adjuster to adjust up and down. To adjust the pitch axis back, add spacers between the bolts holding the camera frame to the pitch adjuster. The Xiaomi Yi should balance perfectly on the pitch axis without any adjustment to forward/back.

Different Motors/Parts:

GoPro Hero 3/4 models should fit the gimbal with minor modification. Newer GoPro models may need more care.

If you need the design modified to fit a different gimbal motor or part, then let me know! I can modify the design for your needs. No guarantees though as there is only so much you can do without the physical parts in hand.
