The file 'Pool Noodle Spiral Cutter 3D Printer Model' is (stl) file type, size is 290.1KB.
Our church is having a Scuba themed VBS this summer. One of the common decorations out there is making seaweed/coral clusters using pool noodles. My wife saw some people had done some wavy cuts and came up with the idea for this cutter. All I did was taking that idea and turning it into a working tool.
Simple description of the tool is a tool which holds three 9mm replacement snap blades, slightly angled. To use it, simply line up the ring to the end of the pool noodle. Rotate the tool while pulling it through the pool noodle. Once complete, the pool noodle will be cut into three spirals.
I have included 3 different versions.
The Basic is the simplest to print. Once printed, the blades should slot in very easily. Just need to secure the blades with some masking tape.
The "Basic" "140x120x50" is the same as the "Basic" version. I shortened the arms so it will fit on a smaller print bed. In order for the blades to fit, a couple segments will have to be snapped off.
The 3mm Hole has three very tight slots which the blades need to be pushed in towards the center of the tool. After the blades are nearly touching in the center, the holes in the blades should line up to the holes. Secure the blades with either M3 screws, hot glue through the holes, dowels, or melted filament. This version is easier to use because the blade is fully covered up. However, it is not super easy to push the blades in. Please be careful with these blades. They break easily and are super sharp.
The Captive version requires pausing the print at 24.7mm, putting in the blades, and finish printing.
I did include another set for wider diameter pool noodles. The first set can accommodate 50mm pool noodles, like the ones sold at Target and Walmart. We had some older pool noodles, and ones sold at Five Below. Those are bigger, and would need the Large to accommodate the 60mm diameter.
All designs have the blade side towards the base of the tool.
Please feel free to reach out if you need other sizes or a 4-cut or more. I can always make others. Do not scale to other sizes because the slots of the blades will scale too.
