Summary

This is a pointing hod to hold mortar for repointing brickwork.

I saw one of these on a youtube video (by GMT Pointing Specialists). The hods aren't that easy to find, so I designed and made my own.

Many people use a hawk for holding their mortar. A small hod allows you to pick up the mortar more easily by scooping against the face of the hod when loading the trowel. You can also hold the lip of the hod against the brick joint as you're filling it.

The handle is curved to make it comfortable to hold.

Printing is fairly easy. Print in the orientation of the .stl files. I used PETG but I'm sure PLA would be fine. I used 20% infill. There are two options for the handle. Being quite tall with a small base makes it hard to print unless you have very good adhesion. I've included a 2-part handle as an alternative - just glue together using CA adhesive. I printed the 2-part handle.

Post Printing
Whichever handle you use, you'll need to glue it to the hod body. Use CA glue. Position the handle slightly towards the closed end of the hod - it makes the hod easier to use. I used about 70mm from the closed end to the centre of the handle.

I've used the hod for lots of DIY pointing tasks. It works really well. I hope it's useful for you.
