Summary

This is a modular plate rack system I designed originally for use in caravans and motorhomes but could be used in any cupboard where you require a fixed plate rack and space is limited.
The rack is designed to keep the plates secure whilst travelling so that they don’t roll or fall out of the rack. (I would still highly recommend mounting the rack in a cupboard that could be closed.)
The rack suits two plate sizes currently larger 27cm diameter plates and smaller 20cm plates. Both sizes support rim thicknesses of up to 7mm and depth (height of plate when in normal use) of 18mm.
The system is modular so can theoretically accommodate any number of plates with each plate requiring a base and a back piece to be printed. The rack pieces slot in side by side so any combination can be created for example 4 large plates then 2 small plates and so on.
There is a spacer module which slots between large and small racks to allow for where the larger plates base is extending at the height of the smaller plate. Other than that the plates are all stored closely together with just a 6mm gap between each making it very space efficient.
I’ve created a video on my YouTube channel which explains the design and installation of the racks (but does not cover the printing settings etc).

I’m considering revising my model to be parametric, if I get around to that then I will upload a selection of other sizes.
When printing I used PLA which seemed more than strong enough. Supports should be turned ON mainly to allow for the cutouts where the racks slot together. I printed with the base of each component (the side that would be fixed to the cupboard) face down to the printing plate. It doesn’t give the neatest top surfaces but seemed the best orientation overall.
The “GripStrip” was an experiment to give extra support whilst travelling and clips onto the TOP of the plates when in the rack. It is designed to be printed in flexible TPU but I don’t think it is essential so if you can’t print TPU just ignore it.
The “BowlHolder” is still a work in progress as bowls tend to bounce of in transit at the moment. I’m planning on revising the design and will update here when I do.

The Fusion360 files are now provided provided to enable users with Fusion360 to create alternative plate sizes. Please feel free to modify and ideally post STL files so that others can benefit.
