Plasteel storage cylinder from Star Wars: Knights of The Old Republic I & II
I used a weak mechanical pencil spring from the base to the top of the center rod, to keep the panels at the top of the cylinder. The thickest panel is the lowest, then thinner as you go around/up. The "cap" panel doesn't move and stays on the top.
I included an separate .stl file for an optional panel that you could use in place of the "stepped" panels which is simpler, but this isn't as accurate, and won't create a flat surface on top when the cylinder is in the closed position.
If you don't scale the model up, I recommend replacing the center rod with a section of paper clip, or something stronger, as the plastic rod may not be strong enough.
I set out to make a replica as close to the original model from the games, but ran into the problem of having to create something that would actually work, which quickly became an engineering challenge.
Hope it works for you. Enjoy!
