Use standard 1/2" PVC schedule 40 pipe. I picked up 10 ft of this for I think $2.49 and if you cut into 2.5 ft lengths, you get 3 levels. One row on the floor, and 2 more on the pipes.
Lay X's on the back, Print at .3 mm with supports. 7 shells and 10% infill. Final product feels quite sturdy. I could see this easily supporting 5/6 rows at 2.5 ft lengths. Any higher, or longer pipe, I'd move to more shells for strength.
Fit of the PVC pipe is just tight enough to hold without glue and not tight enough that you can't easily take it back apart with lots of effort.
If you print, I want to see it! Oh..Make sure you turn the lettering on the PVC pipes so that they point down.. A clean white looking pipe looks so much better!
