Edit: I have also uploaded a revised model which is a 1 piece unit. In hind sight this actually works better than the split unit.
I wanted a slightly longer handle with a bit more clearance for my fingers. The intention was to find something that offered a more comfortable feel while being longer than the original handle to improve leverage and handling. Perception Kayaks doesn't have anything off the shelf that I could find so I decided to make my own. Got printer, will make!
I'm very happy with the result. I designed the base with the same profile shape as the original handle but 25mm higher above the gunwale. This provides plenty clearance for fingers and knuckles.
The handle portion is 105mm long and fits comfortably in my hand.
It's advisable to use ABS if your kayak is stored uncovered or in the sun.
My kayak has a permanent cover on when stored so I used PLA instead. It's plenty strong enough but time will tell what effect the salt water will have on it in the long run.
