The core of this design is a passive magnetic switch which utilises the movement of the corexy platform to rotate a ring of magnets, producing a changing axial flux that can attract or repel the tool.

A passively actuated tool changer for CoreXY 3D printers (developed on a RatRig Vcore 3.1).

  • These two tools have been through approximately 30000 tool changes and are still working perfectly.
  • It will fit 4 tools in a vcore3 300mm printer.
  • The files for the 3rd and 4th tool docks are included but not tested yet.
  • I think this design can be easily ported to any corexy 3D printer with only minor changes to the dock and the belt position.
