Summary

The guy that came up with the idea for utilizing the Disco wing mounts for accessories like fins had a great idea. It made me think that fins would be a great place to put LED's for helping track the Disco both at night and on a hazy Texas day. I wanted fins that in my opinion had lines more in tune to the original lines of the Disco.

Version one was just the top fin which is where I thought more about LED's. Then thinking about it I realized that most of the time the LED's really needed to be on the bottom of the wing because you spend most of the flight time looking up at the Disco. But 4 headlights to me looked cooler than just two. Later it became apparent that much of the time the Disco is perpendicular to you so you also need lights seen from the side , enter Green and Red Nav lights (LEDS). Finally I also added some blue LEDs not on the fins on the tail end of the Disco.

With 4 main headlights and 4 green and 4 red LED's the current draw is only 187 mA.
The skids are to help raise the Disco off the ground on hard landings to help protect the camera lens. As I have the two fins built and soldered up with tape etc.. they together weight in at 91 grams in total. In my opinion I would always wire in a fuse so a bad citizen LED would not be able to damage or worse yet take out your battery in mid flight. I use a 0.5 Amp fuse and it works perfectly.
Hope these are useful.
