Summary

This is a test print I have used for the last few years. I don't remember which source file I got this from, sorry, but it was downloaded from thingiverse.

I often will use this "owl" after a print fails. After something doesn't print, I will then print an owl. If the owl works, it means there probably was something wrong with the previous print. The owl takes less than an hour to print. I will sometimes resize him for some variety. I doesn't need supports or a raft. It is a rare thing when the owl doesn't print.

The original owl was large, about 90mm and had about 80,000 polygons so it would make my software crash. I use Rhino. I reduced this to 20,000 and made it about 35mm tall.

I also put some text (2018) on his feet because I have ended up with quite a few of owls and it might be nice to start to know when they were made.

I probably have an owl from 2015 printed on my my first 3d printer, the Makerbot 2x. I currently have a Ultimaker 3. I was going to try the new Makerbot Replicator Mini. I have a coworker that has it and it was printing great.

I teach at a middle school so grades 6-8 would love to see the owl but it is mostly a test print for an teacher or 3D user.
