Summary

In addition to my EasyCalibration part, which I use for all filaments, I was looking for something to simply show the overhangs that really work. As my overhangs are often not just on one side (and influenced by the position of the cooling fan), I opted for an OverhangCalibration like a vase, which gives me a simple clue as what is working and what are the problems.

OverhangCalib3 prints quickly in less than 30 minutes and shows you exactly where problems occur. Thin wall (1mm) with engraved angle of 40° to 60°. Shows you:

  • Angle that works with the desired layer height
  • Differences around the part depend on the cooling position
  • Deformation of the thin walls
  • Stringing and overextrusion
  • Not enough partial cooling -> minimal layer time
  • Slipping filament -> too hot or layer height too big for this overhang

Along with my EasyCalibration thing (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1023717) this is my most used thing to calibrate my filaments. It also suppressed the LayerBondingCalibration thing (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2182560) something; I use it now only for ABS or very critical materials.

Enjoy!
