Last year I scanned this statue using the windows desktop version of 123D Catch. It was a great scan. http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:27091 Luckily I saved all the pictures I took.
Now Autodesk has a new pro web app called ReCap Photo http://recap.autodesk.com (requires an Autodesk 360 subscription) I tried uploading the same photos I used last year in 123D Catch into ReCap. This resulted in an even better scan.
Some features such as the cross on the chest was completely missing from the last scan. The toes in the feet are now there. And the details in the hand holding the flowers is also more detailed. (ignore the more roughly textured face - I smoothed that in meshmixer in the old scan, with this scan this is the raw output after repair in Netfabb with no touchup)
ReCap seems great so far. The manual stitching seems better than the last time I tried 123D catch and works great in the web version. One less reason for me to reboot into windows!
Lesson learned: Save all your old 123D catch photos. I have a feeling as better software is released over time, you'll be able to load those old photos and get even better output.
