Summary

These are servo mounting brackets for a radio controlled ornithopter. They can also be used any place where you want to mount a servo on its side, such as in other RC vehicles.

The easiest way to build an RC ornithopter (flapping wing aircraft) is to make the body from a flat sheet of material such as carbon fiber, fiberglass laminate, or aircraft plywood. These 3D printable servo mounts provide an easy method for securing two standard size servos to the ornithopter body for flapping the wings.

The servo mounts were designed for Hitec brushless servos such as HSB-9360TH. They will also fit many other standard size servos. Hitec provides a similar type of mounting bracket with some of its mini servos. I designed these mounts so that a standard size servo can be mounted in the same way.

One feature of these mounts is that they require a minimum of screws for mounting the servos. Part A fits over the original mounting tabs of the servo. Part B anchors the back of the servo, providing a stronger and more rigid mount.

Size 4/40 screws (or M3 screws) with nuts are used for securing the servo mounts onto the ornithopter body. The length of the screws will be determined by the thickness of the material. Holes are printed square and then drilled out with a #32 (0.116") drill bit for more accurate holes.
