This is a remix of the OpenSCAD Chess https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:585218 set designed for easier upright printing without supports. I didn't want to print the two halves and glue them together as in the orginal thing, or try and cut out supports. I also used wood PLA filament from Hatchbox and stained them to great effect. Each piece has a washer and green felt glued to the bottom for some weight.
I modified the dxf files to not have such a steep overhang using LibreCAD and regenerated the STL files in OpenSCAD. Next, I added a chin support to the knight with TinkerCAD. Lastly, I greatly increased the thickness of the king's crown to prevent breakage using OpenSCAD. The rook was the only piece which didn't need any tweaks, but it's here for completeness.
You can see the before and after in the pictures for this where the modified parts are highlighted.
(The chessboard was made out of aspen and mahogany.)
