Summary

After designing front suspension for Daniel's OpenRC F1 car I decided I had to come up with a way to make REAR suspension work. After several attempts I'm proud to say I've succeeded! Using the same battery terminal springs, "AA" this time, I was able to shoe-horn in a functional rear suspension system.

The file "Chassis Rear_Suspension" has been added to give the proper mounting holes and remove some of the original ones that were no longer needed.

I have uploaded a quick video demonstrating how it works: https://youtu.be/7EPDpDtVf3I

And a driving demo with all 3 of my designs installed on the car: https://youtu.be/g154r7Dcjas

Instructions:

Print all of the pieces the list below and assemble as shown in the pictures above, replacing the originals.

Left Axle Mount (Requires Support)

Right Axle Mount (Requires Support)

Pivot

Spring Holder

Bottom Plate

Pressure Plate

Right Axle Mount

Left Axle Mount (Print a Mirror the Right. If necessary I can upload one already mirrored.)

Chassis Rear_Suspension

Motor Cover Suspension

All parts were printed in PLA with 90% infill except the motor cover, which was printed at 15% infill.

DO NOT print the file "Rear Suspension Assembled". I posted it to help with assembly.

This system uses several of the following battery terminals for springs: Keystone 5220

I started with 3 of the springs (they slide into the part called "spring holder" and ended up using 4 of them for increased support. You could use anywhere between 2 and 5 of them depending on the weight of your car and how stiff you want the suspension.

Enjoy!
